Science - Grant Funded
Cancer Research UK provides one of the most well rounded studentships on the market today, which include a competitive stipend. Funding is awarded to supervisors whose research project contain the best science and provide excellent training for the student. Students are supported for four years, which allows the student to have enough time to finish off their lab work and write up their thesis. We want to encourage our students to develop in their PhD and offer a communication training course that is exclusive to Cancer Research UK funded students and provide a yearly social/educational meeting. This guarantees that we are not only developing the next generation of leaders in cancer research but also that these scientists will have transferable skills, which in today’s climate is an essential part of being a scientist.
We like to keep in contact with our students and to make them feel involved by taking their opinions into consideration. If there is an obvious change to be made then we like to feel that we are adaptable funding body that can move with the times. So when it became apparent a few years ago that students would benefit from a four year studentship due to a survey we conducted the length of the studentship was increased.
Our studentships are advertised once a year in October, in such journals as the New Scientist and Nature. By funding the supervisors directly it means that there are Cancer Research UK studentship opportunities around the UK in various universities.
Studentships are advertised annually in October each year, supervisors decide their own closing date so these vary. Most interviews are held in January/February.
